The invention of film and photography processing

Film photography is possible thanks to the small advancements made over decades. Thomas Wedgewood started experimenting with light-sensitive chemicals in 1792 and made the first unfixed photographic picture. However, in 1826 Joseph Nicephore Niepce coated a tin plate with asphalt, put it in a camera obscura and left it pointed out of a window for eight hours until the areas of that had not been hardened by the sun washed off in oil.  Louis Jacques-Mande Daguerre used silver iodide-coated silver plates exposed to light in a camera and then treating the plate with Mercury vapor and a strong salt solution to remove the leftover iodide. Daguerre and Niepce knew they were working on similar concepts and decided to collaborate. By 1837, Daguerre used sodium thiosulfate to create his “heliographs” which became known as “Daguerreotypes.”

Photography processing is a process that involves several chemicals and use of or lack of light. Through putting the film in these chemical bathes for a certain amount of time and then using a solution to stop the development in a dark room. Then the negative image and light is used to print an image. Photographs are developed in a dark room due to the light-sensitive materials that go into the process. To understand the process, one must understand that the chemicals included in the process are silver halide crystals, the chemical compound that forms between silver and halogens (reactive nonmetallic elements) and reducing agents that can break down silver. The film from a camera is treated by reducing agent chemicals which the silver in the silver halide crystals is reduced which creates a negative of the image where the light parts look dark and the dark parts look light.

Multimedia Timeline Explanation

Creating a timeline that would be interesting, creative, and relevant while sharing the past and history of multimedia is the main concern. The passion for the field of media, the way social media and information is shared today, and the programs for media all went into the choice to create a graphic design video timeline.

My primary interest in commercial production is because of the way amazing stories While viewers cannot interact with this video in the traditional sense of editing or changing the elements themselves, they can interact in another way. Once this video is done and posted online, viewers can repost, send, and share the video through social media sites. Hopefully the visual stimulation will lead people to want to watch it multiple times to make sure they caught everything and share their findings with others. Even if not all the dates, events, and notes are remembered, hopefully there is at least one or two things that people do remember because it stood out to them in the video in some visual way.

What is Multimedia?

multimedia

Multimedia is film, it is painting, it is music, it is technology, it is a photo, and much more. Multimedia is creativity in every form. It is the combination of all things visual and audio that allow the artists and creatives of the world to communicate with on. Multimedia is multiple forms of mass communication. Many definitions out there for multimedia contain some form of computers or technology use. They also often include aspects such as text, graphics, audio, and video. Multimedia consists of verbal and non-verbal combinations of communication.

A play on its own is not considered multimedia and some may say that is because a play is not interactive and only contains one medium. However, consider a musical. While personally multimedia is not believed to have to be interactive, even a musical can be argued as being interactive multimedia. Often musicals are a play, but with the combination of music and singing of actors on stage, that play then includes multiple types of media. A musical causes an audience to use multiple senses to not only see the actions occurring on stage. Very often when a musical becomes popular the songs within become known among audiences who then sing-a-long to the performances, which is only another example of how it becomes interactive.

Watching the videos and films created by others is not only a favorite pastime, but also a learning experience with every actor, shot, sound bite, music, and flash of color that hits the screen. It is incredible to understand what all it takes for a commercial, music video, or film to come to life. The combination of different forms of media is pure art and it can be beautiful. I feel very grateful to have a passion for such a creative career that allows me to use multimedia every day and work with people who have the same passion for different types of media.

The Role of a Producer

  • Requirements for a Producer
    • A BA is normal, but not necessarily required, showing previous work including videos and production books for each project show how I can effectively continue my career as a line or associate producer
    • Skills required:
      • Time management
      • Inter-personal communication
      • Organization
      • Adaptable
      • Negotiation
      • Legal requirements
        • Salary
        • Working conditions
        • Actors/Ages
        • Hours
        • Pay Net
      • Vendor/Rental Paperwork
      • Multi-tasking
      • Budgetary management
      • Banking
    • Producer role on recent projects
      • Paperwork and Communication
      • Required paperwork, speak with all vendors, cast, and crew, scheduling, scripts, and more in a pretty presentable format
      • Ensure that any company of person working on the project will understand what is happening, the purpose, and what their job will be along the way.
