Multimedia is film, it is painting, it is music, it is technology, it is a photo, and much more. Multimedia is creativity in every form. It is the combination of all things visual and audio that allow the artists and creatives of the world to communicate with on. Multimedia is multiple forms of mass communication. Many definitions out there for multimedia contain some form of computers or technology use. They also often include aspects such as text, graphics, audio, and video. Multimedia consists of verbal and non-verbal combinations of communication.
A play on its own is not considered multimedia and some may say that is because a play is not interactive and only contains one medium. However, consider a musical. While personally multimedia is not believed to have to be interactive, even a musical can be argued as being interactive multimedia. Often musicals are a play, but with the combination of music and singing of actors on stage, that play then includes multiple types of media. A musical causes an audience to use multiple senses to not only see the actions occurring on stage. Very often when a musical becomes popular the songs within become known among audiences who then sing-a-long to the performances, which is only another example of how it becomes interactive.
Watching the videos and films created by others is not only a favorite pastime, but also a learning experience with every actor, shot, sound bite, music, and flash of color that hits the screen. It is incredible to understand what all it takes for a commercial, music video, or film to come to life. The combination of different forms of media is pure art and it can be beautiful. I feel very grateful to have a passion for such a creative career that allows me to use multimedia every day and work with people who have the same passion for different types of media.
